Five hours out of Lisbon, 90 minutes at Pena with the Essential Ticket already in hand, and 45 minutes on foot in Sintra's historic centre.
Updated 18 October 2026
Five hours, an air-conditioned vehicle with up to 8 people, and a guide who stays with the group from the Hard Rock Cafe meeting point to the end of the day. The Pena Palace Essential Ticket is included, covering the palace interior and park entry, and that is the part that decides whether the day works: the interior runs on timed slots with a daily cap on numbers, a ticket admits you only on the exact date and time printed on it, you cannot go in early, and there is no grace period if you are late.
Private cars cannot reach the monument. Rampa da Pena, the final approach road, is permanently closed to private vehicles and used by public transport, drivers are sent to Sintra's historic centre or the peripheral car parks, and the historic centre itself is restricted to residents. Arriving with an organised tour takes that whole problem off your hands.
Ninety minutes is the time at Pena. That covers the palace route, the terraces and the courtyards comfortably, and it does not cover the far corners of the 85-hectare park: the Chalet of the Countess of Edla, the Valley of the Lakes and the High Cross sit well away from the building, and it takes about 30 minutes just to get from the park's main entrance up to the start of the palace route. If the park is your main reason for coming, plan a separate visit for it or pick a longer day.
The guide gives the historical context in the park and on the terraces, then the palace interior is self-guided, so you walk the rooms at your own pace. Photography and video are not allowed inside the National Palace of Pena, and tripods are forbidden across the sites. Lunch is not included, nor is the Quinta da Regaleira ticket; Regaleira is not part of this itinerary at all.
Five hours from central Lisbon, 90 minutes at the Park and National Palace of Pena with the Essential Ticket included, 45 minutes in the historic centre, air-conditioned vehicle with up to 8 people.

The alternatives in the table run eight or nine hours and start lower, from €30 to €66, and all of them add the coast at Cabo da Roca and Cascais to Sintra. The five-hour tour on this page is the one that hands you back the rest of the day in Lisbon, and it is the one with the Pena Essential Ticket already included.
Ticket inclusions and group sizes differ between the longer days, so check each listing against what you want settled before you arrive.
